Lady Falcons Stop the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders, 12-7
The Lady Falcons scored quickly to start the game fast, but was unable to keep up the pace for long. The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders played a great game and nearly caught up, but the Falcons outpaced the Crusaders to dominate the second half.
Bam! Rachel Chapla to Meghan Hawthorne to Deirdre O'Connor. Bam! Chapla to Kendall Hidalgo to Hawthorne back to Chapla. Bam! Solo point by O'Connor. Three points in 2 minutes, and the Falcons were taking off! A couple of forced turnovers later by Chapla and Hawthorne, Allie Klavik assisted Chapla for the next point on a bounce shot. Then the Crusaders turned it on and fought hard for their first point, trading possession with the Falcons several times through turnovers by Sarah Hawthorne, ground ball recoveries by Colleen Brophy, Hidalgo, and Claire Kilmer and a tussle win by Erin Noonan. After a couple of amazing saves by Katie Worsdale, the Crusaders scored again on a quick stick. Worsdale excited the crowd when she was doubled up outside the cage and again when she intercepted a Crusader pass. Another dramatic save by Worsdale led to a coast-to-coast flight by Hawthorne to set up a Klavik-to-O'Connor point. A penalty shot by Cardinal Gibbons narrowed the score 5-3 to end the first half.
A forced turnover by Sarah Hawthorne, a save by Worsdale, and a yellow card against the Crusaders started the second half dramatically, but it was Chapla, assisted by Klavik, who put the next point on the board. Dana Josephson forced a Crusader out of bound, and Worsdale made more saves before Casey Reiser, breaking the Chapla/O'Connor monopoly on scoring, charged into the Crusader crowd to lob in the next point. Sarah Hawthorne slammed in the next point. The Crusaders quickly responded with another point, but Erin Noonan, straight from the draw, responded even more quickly. Chapla's next point was assisted by the Crusader's own goalie. The Crusaders once again worked hard for their next point, giving Worsdale 5 more saves and interceptions in seven minutes of play. Another interception by Worsdale gave Meghan Hawthorne another run to the crease, dodging Crusaders left and right, for the next point. The final point was scored by Klavik when Meghan Hawthorne, on a clear by Worsdale, made the coast-to-coast run to set up the point.
