April 23
Lady Falcons Make Valiant Comeback Attempt Against Lady Cougars, 5-13

After the disappointing first half shut-out, the Lady Falcons came to life to outscore the Lady Cougars in the second half. In the end, the Lady Falcons failed to spoil Senior Night for the Lady Cougars on their slippery field, where Falcon players slid to the ground as often as Apex players scored.

The first half proved disheartening, both to the players and the fans. 0-1, 0-2, 0-3, 0-4... would this never end? 0-5, 0-6... and on it went until the buzzer rang to end the half at 0-10.

Then the second half started and the streak continued. 0-11, 0-12. Would the Falcons be shut out? It had never happened in the history of the team. But then Deirdre O'Connor came up with a score. Yes!!!!! Katie "The Beast" Worsdale intercepted a Cougar pass, which nicely set up the game for Claire Kilmer to score on a shooting space penalty. Minutes later, Meghan Hawthorne made an express delivery to the net and suddenly the game was on! The fans came to life and finally felt some hope. Hawthorne dove back into the Cougar den to score the next point. Rachel Chapla followed up just seconds later with a slammer when she took a pass from O'Connor, who won the draw from Chapla herself. For 17 magical minutes, the Lady Falcons scored 5 straight points while keeping the Cougars scoreless. Worsdale played the game as a full-contact sport when she threw herself into the game, stuffing shots left and right, in and out of the crease (more often out than in, it seemed), screaming as she charged. With little more than 2 minutes on the board, the Cougars managed to pull off another point. The fans cheered loudly up to the end, as O'Connor, with 13 seconds left, stopped the clock multiple times on her way to the goal, drawing foul after foul. Her last second shot was denied (but had the fans on their feet) to end the game, 5-13.
