Lady Falcons Beat New Holly Springs Team on Senior Night, 18-6

The Lady Falcons beat the Lady Hawks, who played with great heart, in an evening of firsts -- first goals ever for Emily Ross and Katie McCabe, first point of the season for defender Colleen Brophy, first season for the Lady Hawks, and the first time a goalie in the cage got credit for a point.

The points came fast and furious. Katie Worsdale, on field, scored in 14 seconds. Dana Josephson scored the next point at the crease. Casey Reiser intercepted a pass, which let Allie Klavik assist Deirdre O'Connor for the next point. Holly Springs got two points off, first on a crease roll, then on a quick stick, to narrow the gap, 3-2. But that's as close as they got in the game. Chapla tipped in a pass from Meghan Hawthorne, and then O'Connor scored a corner shot. Reiser bounced in the next point. Hawthorne scored from a pass from Klavik, who won the draw from Emily Ross. Taylor Morrison ran the next point in. Chapla slammed the next one in over the top. Then Emily Ross scored her first point ever on a penalty shot, after battling hard in a ground ball tussle. (Great job, Emily!) Alicia Smith slammed in the last point of the half, 11-2.

Katie McCabe scored her very first point to start the second half. (Way to go, Irish!). The next point against the Lady Hawks was self-inflicted, but someone on the opposing side needed to take credit. "Why not the goalie?" mused the Falcon coaches. Cheryl Schlitter records her first point! After the Lady Hawks scored once more, Nicole Nisbet made a solo run to the net. Hagen Donahue helped in a pass from McCabe for a quick stick point. "That's the way to do a quick stick!" exclaimed Coach Sibley. Kelly Bristow bounced the next point in on penalty. The Lady Hawks then went on a roll and put three more points on the board, first over the top, then on a quick stick, then on a fast break. Just 15 seconds later, with only 17 seconds left on the clock, Colleen Brophy made her first point of the season. And just when you thought the game was over, Erin Noonan squeaked in one more point with just 2.9 seconds left to finish the game 18-6.

Schlitter made impressive interceptions, as did Soumya Vishwanath and Kendall Hidalgo. Priscilla Lin and Dani Klavik made pivotal ground ball recoveries, and Linelle Gorman slowed down Lady Hawk fast breaks. Claire Kilmer showed great hustle, and Ross and Nisbet took the draw like a pro. Exciting scoring attempts were made by Ross, Lin and Kelly Bristow. All in all, a great effort was made from every player on the team.
