Lady Falcons Spoil Senior Night for Panther Creek Catamounts, 20-10
The Lady Catamounts gave the Lady Falcons a run for their money, reducing a 9 point deficit down to 3 points at one time. Seniors Katie Worsdale, Cheryl Schlitter and Kelsey Noonan were reunited with former teammate (and Catamount starter) Emily Tatton, who were all part of the 2006 State Champion Lady Falcon team.
Rachel Chapla bounced in the first point. Dana Josephson followed up with a flight to the net. Kendall Hidalgo assisted Chapla, who dove into a den of cats to score the next point. Hidalgo then assisted Deirdre O'Connor for the next point. Hidalgo's interception and pass off to Chapla at the crease put the next score on the board. Meghan Hawthorne scored next on a quick stick from a behind-the-net pass from Allie Klavik. Casey Reiser intercepted a pass and made a solo run to the cage. Goalie Katie Worsdale intercepted a pass then dodged and ducked attackers out on the field. Katie McCabe rolled in the next point, which skimmed the goalie on its way into the net. Alicia Smith did a quick turn after receiving an assist from Taylor Morrison to score the next point. After 9 straight Falcon points, the Panthers finally put one on the board on a fast break, then another on a crease roll. Kendall "3-pointer" Hidalgo made the next penalty point from the outside. Hawthorne made a high shot on penalty for the next point. The Panthers scored the last point of the half at the last second, 11-3.
The second half started slowly for the Falcons. Despite 3 saves by Goalie Cheryl Schlitter and another by Worsdale, a ground ball recovery by Priscilla Lin, forced turnovers by Chapla, and interceptions by Reiser and Hawthorne, the Catamounts scored 5 straight points to reduce the Falcon lead down to just 3. Then the Falcons took off on a scoring streak of their own. Hawthorne cut in for the next point. Then she won the next 4 draws for 4 more quick points. Klavik assisted Chapla, Josephson assisted Klavik, Josephson took a solo drive, then finally Klavik passed the ball back to Hawthorne for a quick stick. Chapla recovered a ground ball to assist O'Connor for the next point. The Catamounts got in a quick stick of their own, then a crease roll for 2 more points. Josephson took just 3 steps to score next on penalty. O'Connor's next interception gave Chapla a fast point on a quick stick. With just 14 seconds to go, Chapla ended the game with a pass from Hawthorne, 20-10.
