Lady Falcons Round Up the Middle Creek Mustangs, 11-6

Rookies and 2nd-year players dominated the scoreboard in a rematch against the Middle Creek Mustangs, putting up 10 of the 11 Falcon points. Once again, the Ruppert sisters were pitted against each other, as were former teammates-turned-coaches.

Katie Worsdale and Christina Demetros intercepted passes, Kay Kay Keung made a shot attempt, and Logan Kaznowski and Demetros picked up ground balls, but it took a Brittany Ruppert pass to Kelly Reiser to put the first point on the board. Mandy Blackburn battled for groundballs, and Deirdre O'Connor dodged and weaved her way to the net on a penalty shot for the next point. Rachel Chapla, on a pass from Ruppert, quick-sticked the next point in. O'Connor, on fire, took a pass from Kelly Reiser to score her next point. When Jenna Lang won the ground ball off the draw, her pass to Ruppert ended with Chapla connecting to the back of the net on a quick-stick. The Mustangs scored one on penalty, but the Falcon defense stepped up to keep more from happening. Demetros blocked a cutter, she and Kaznowski thwarted Mustang attempts into the Falcon nest, Ali Brown drew a charge and Demetros deflected a Mustang pass. Then Alannah Garcia connected to Dana Josephson, deep in the Mustang corral, to score the next point. Taylor George, on a pass from Kelly Reiser, put up the next point. Josephson shoveled in the next shot. But despite good blocking by Nicole Nisbet, the Mustangs broke through the Falcon defense to score the last point of the half.

The second half started with ball control bouncing between the two teams like a ping-pong match. Chapla and Ruppert made shot attempts. Casey Reiser, Brown, Chapla and Kaznowski won out on ground balls, and Worsdale blocked a penalty shot. When off-sides was called on the Mustangs, Casey Reiser passed it off to O'Connor for the point. Defense got to show their stuff, with goalie Cheryl Schlitter, Garcia and Demetros swatting away Mustang passes, Brown drawing another charge, and Elba Olivero blocking attackers. But a penalty shot proved unstoppable as the Mustangs narrowed the gap 9-3. George, not to be outdone by Josephson, scored her second point of the game with a connection from Kelsey Collins. (Both George and Josephson scored their first Green Hope goals last week.) Danielle Johnson scooped a ground ball, Hagen Donahue made a shot attempt, but Allie Klavik was the one who lit the scoreboard when she shot high on penalty for the next point. The Mustangs responded with a penalty point of their own. Kelly Bristow and Collins made more shot attempts, Shannon Leonard and Priscilla Lin slowed down a galloping Mustang, Colleen Brophy showed good passing, and Schlitter blocked a crease roll. But with 20 seconds left, the Mustangs drew Schlitter out of the cage and shot behind her. A last-second Mustang goal ended the game 11-6.
