Lady Falcons Stumble Against the Broughton Capitols, 7-10
The first half looked to be a close game. Kelsey Collins made a nice transition down the field and connected to Brittany Ruppert, who scored on a quick stick. Broughton evened the score. Then Ruppert took a pass from Taylor George, ran and slammed in the next point. After a tough battle for ball control, Broughton again evened the score 2-2 at the end of the half.
But then the game took a turn for the worse in the second half. 2-3, 2-4, 2-5, 2-6, 2-7, 2-8. And that was just the first 7 minutes. Then a Ruppert pass to Kelly Reiser started the rally. Ruppert, from a pass by Kay Kay Keung, ran the next point in after dribbling the ball on the ground once, but Broughton responded with a score of their own. Ruppert, assisted by Collins, put another point in, but Broughton responded again with a slam soon after the draw. With just one minute left, Ruppert took the ball from Jenna Lang and charged down the field from the half field mark to slam in the next one accurately up and to the right. Casey Reiser then connected to Keung who slammed one in with just 27 seconds left on the clock. A last second attempt by Ruppert to Keung had the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Besides Ruppert, Katie Worsdale also had an exceptional game, with 4 interceptions and 16 heart-stopping saves. Casey Reiser, Jenna Lang, Logan Kaznowski, Rachel Chapla, Ali Brown, and Christina Demetros warded off incessant attacks and forced turnovers. The fans remained hopeful and encouraging to the end. "You can still do it! Just one goal every 2 minutes!" "Every minute!" "Every 12 seconds!" But the 7 minute hurdle at the beginning of the half was just too much to overcome.
